A Way of Life

Gaming is a huge part of my life. Video games have driven me into the biggest decisions of my life every time. To me it's more than a hobby or even more than something I'm passionate about. It something that has stuck with me throughout my life and has defined who I am as a person and as a professional.

  • My Career

Video games gave me a clear view of what I wanted to do for a living. As you can guess like any person who hasn't had the disgra... err.. joy of discovering what programming is, I was sure I was going to make video games.

Later on I discovered my passion as a web developer instead. But it's not just about doing what you love, but about doing it for something you really care about. That's where gaming as a concept and as a community come in.

I always do my best and every piece of code I write is done with the utmost attention to details, but any project I involve myself in that relates to gaming will ALWAYS get the very best of me like no other.

To me gaming is challenges, community, competition and improvement. I want to make all this grow, and grow along with it.

  • Social Life

Games always present themselves as an excellent alternative to distance. My dearest friends have gone through their own paths in life just like me and we all live in different cities and even countries.

Through games and tools created for social gaming like Discord I always keep in contact with the people I care about. I may not see them constantly but at least I share with them whenever I can.

Through their own experiences I have connected with other people who also become meaningful to me. It is wonderful to see the incredible potential games have to bring people together, people all around the world you wouldn't even get the chance to meet otherwise. Many of these connections have resulted in a new experience in my life: trips, jobs and even projects to build together!

  • Growing Up

During my childhood games had a direct impact in my personality. They taught me to rise to the challenge, to push myself, to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

I learned about the sense of responsibility to commit to other people (raiders will know :P) and work as a team. World of Warcraft in particular taught me about what it is to have a long term project and stick to it. Also because of this MMO and its ability to customize the UI using addOns I was introduced to programming through this peculiar tooltip addOn that worked through a pseudo-code language similar to your usual programming language. Without knowing what the hell I was looking at I delved into it until I got it working how I wanted and then showed it to a friend who then introduced me to programming after seeing it. Funny enough this addOn was hosted by Curse which happens to be the first gaming company I worked for.

  • Gaming Industry

If you've read this far it's no secret to you that my dream is to become part of the gaming industry and focus my knowledge and experience towards bringing games and entertainment to everyone. Currently I am trying to find a way into the gaming industry as it is not easy being from Costa Rica, where projects like this are not as prominent. However, I am always ready to give my best and help build the gaming industry alongside amazing individuals.
